Weekend Cocktail Club – Don’t Drink Basic

The Gold Rush

I got some good feedback on the simple twist I put on a margarita last week so I’m sticking with that them this week and sharing with you a very simple drink that is just slightly better than the common counterpart most people order – which is a Whiskey Sour.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces you favorite house bourbon (I like Maker’s Mark or Four Roses)
  • 3/4 ounce lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • 3/4 ounce honey syrup (it’s just water + honey as a simple syrup)
  • Garnish: lemon twist

Steps

  1. Add the bourbon, honey syrup, and lemon juice into a shaker with ice and shake it don’t break it till your hand gets numb <cold>
    > don’t do the shortcut of mixing the honey and water in the shaker – take the time to do it on the side or just prep this honey simple syrup in advance. It goes quickly, especially if you are a tea drinker
  2. Strain into a chilled rocks glass over one large ice cube.
  3. Garnish with a lemon twist.

Simple Perfection in a rocks glass

Tell me how I’m doing! It’s okay to provide constructive criticism. I’m trying to get better at this.
